Archiware P5 uses MMSL (Media Management & Storage Licence) licences to enable storage capacity for Backup and Archive. Each single MMSL license has a dual purpose, activating either one slot in an LTO tape library or 12TB of cloud or disk storage, depending on the type of storage being used.
For example: A P5 license that includes 25 MMSL licenses, could be used to activate 12 slots in an LTO library and also provide (13 x 12TB) = 156TB of cloud storage. Or it could be used to activate a 25 slot LTO library with no cloud storage.
For a cloud or disk backup system, the number of MMSL licences required depends on the amount of storage P5 needs to manage. As a guide, this should include both the initial full backup of your data and the additional space required to retain changed and deleted files in line with your chosen retention policy. An approximate estimate of your total storage requirement is sufficient for us to recommend the appropriate number of MMSL licences.
